Humphrey Waddington's men wrestled the Rosenheim Trophy from Herne Hill's grasp at the last gasp, having snapped at the heels of their BAL Nat Two opponents for the greater part of an atrociously wet evening at Kingsmeadow.
K&P's win in this the 44th contest in the series gave them 5 overall successes, drawing level with Hercules Wimbledon, though still adrift of Croydon's 13 & HHH's 11 titles.
The match was keenly fought as the heavens opened on a gratifyingly large & cheerful(mostly) group of Officials, with 5 clubs all in with a shout at some stage. Wins were exchanged, and K&P only actually won 2 of the 12 events, not least Gareth Cook's DT success(SB 38.66),though significantly a speedy 4 x 200 squad(1.31.9) of Chris Hall,Adam Bellis,James Heptonstall & Andre Nembhard took the last event to enable K&P to sneak past HHH at the death.
Andre Nembhard(100 11.3),Gareth Cook(HT 54.44),Ron Taylor(1500 4.16.1),James Heptonstall(LJ 6.66) & Chris Hall(200 23.0) claimed 2nd places with the TM's judicious use of his other resources(Richard Holt 800/John Burnett 2kST/Maurice Joyce PV/Maris Kuklis 400/Mike Maranzano 3000) ensuring the silverware resides at 106 Elm Road for 12 months.
Amongst the non-scoring events, which provide welcome funds for the track hire & officials' fodder,it was good to see Rachel Burbridge back on the track(winning the 2kST);she,Debbie R & Liz R took the opportunity to post 2007 bests over 1500; and Adam Bellis did likewise over 100/200.
Final Score - K&P 74/HHH 69/HW 65/E&E 63/Croydon 62/SMR 43/Serpentine 37 & BA 6.
